I've got a bottle of Marask sitting on my shelf. VERY sweet stuff. I'm getting a bottle of Luxardo in soon as well. I'm hoping to put a bit of a taste comparison up soon. I'll let you know!

I was just about to write this EXACT same post as I just bought a new bottle of Luxardo today and have some stock left over from long ago. The Luxardo is so much better it makes me want to re-label the stock as something else. They aren't even comparable! Crazy though that you wrote on this, I just opened my computer to write a comparison of the two and figured I would check the blogs before I got started...I guess I'll let this one simmer for a while. Great evaluation of maraschino.

Yep, Aviation's a damn fine gin. I suspect it won't leave our regular rotation.

I'm constantly searching for Luxardo and hope to find it at Divino in Denver this week. But, hell, I'd take Maraska too given that the only thing available is Stock's here.

Though, for me, and using Regan's recipe, the Aviation is still a revelation.

I really like the Luxardo Maraschino. It's pretty strong flavored, so you do have to be careful measuring it. It can take over a cocktail, if you're not careful.

Actually, I like almost the whole Luxardo line. Almost everything is at least above average, and many of the varieties are better than some of the more well known versions.

I've heard the Maraska Maraschino is OK; but, I am not over impressed with most of their liquor/liqueur line.

A lot of the Maraska products, like their so-called apricot and kirsch, are nothing more than flavored grain alcohol.

I just laid hands on a bottle of Luxardo myself (of course, being in Pennsylvania I had to special order it).

I haven't had the opportunity to try any other brands yet, but I did inaugurate the Luxardo by making a Fancy Free, which comes highly recommended from Paul over at the Cocktail Chronicles:

    Fancy Free

        * 2 ounces bourbon
        * 1/2 ounce maraschino liqueur
        * 1-2 dashes Angostura bitters
        * 1-2 dashes orange bitters

    Stir well with ice and strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a cherry.

Give it a shot...I used Maker's Mark bourbon and Regan's orange bitters and thought it was great.
