Not sure if you're famiiar with my blog, The Corkdork, but a while back I put up a special Campari drink, the Starlight Cocktail from Harry Denton's.

You can find it here: http://corkdork.typepad.com/corkdork/2005/11/starlight_cockt.html

I'm anxious to try the Gitane, even though you don't like the name.

Hi Michael,

I made it over to Cascal and tried this drink. It's not bad, but I don't think it out does a classic negroni. I took a picture of it before I drank it, so you could see if yours looked the same.

Thank you for this one, Michael. The Gitana is a lovely, welcome addition to the family of Campari-and-Gin recipes. Ms. Thirsty opines that "it's my new favorite!" and while I'm less fickle in these matters, I'd say it's definitely earned a place in the firmament. Five stars :)

Hm, that Amore Dolce sure sounds good. I'm curious about the interplay between the Campari and the raspberry vodka. Thanks for commenting!

I love doing a mint infused bourbon for parties where I feature juleps. When I do this, I infuse a fifth or two and set it on the bar with simple syrup, water, ice, and fresh mint for garnish and let the guests make their own drinks to suit their taste. It really frees me up for other hosting duties and still produces quality drinks.

The Gitana sounds very good, and similar to the Amore Dolce (soft love I believe, so a better name than Gitana).

Recipe from www.in-the-spirit.co.uk
    * 1 shot campari
    * 1 shot Raspberry Vodka
    * 3 spoons Caster Sugar
    * 1 lime
    * crushed ice

Place several thin slices of lime in an old fashioned glass. Add the sugar and muddle this a little, but not too much. Then add the Raspberry Vodka and Campari. Stir, then top with crushed ice.

I liked that recipe, but found the campari too bitter, so I upped the raspberry vodka to a 2 to 1 ratio and topped the drink with a splash of soda. No mint, but I thought you might enjoy.
